The American Red Cross is again urging residents to donate blood, especially as supplies of one blood type reach critical levels.
Communications Manager Jan Hale says O negative and O positive are extremely low and patient care could be negatively impacted if donors don’t step up soon.
To that end, the Red Cross has announced several blood drives in Emporia next month:
*Feb. 1 — 10 am to 3 pm, Flinthills Mall
*Feb. 5 — 11 am to 5 pm, Emporia State University. Drive continues Feb. 6 from 10 am to 4 pm
*Feb. 6 — 9 am to 2 pm, Flint Hills Technical College
There is also a drive Monday from 12 to 7:30 pm at the Cottonwood Falls Community Building in Swope Park along with a drive from 11 am to 5 pm Jan. 30 at Burlington’s St. Francis Xavier Church.
