Downtown Emporia businesses will be making adjustments this week and next as the city’s sanitary sewer renovation process continues.
Sewer relining gets underway this week, meaning businesses may have to shut down water use on a short-term basis. The tentative relining schedule is as follows:
*Wednesday, daytime lining: 300 and 400 block of Mechanic east side, 300 and 400 block of Market west side
*Monday, Jan. 27, nighttime lining: 600 and 700 block of Commercial east side, 600 block of Merchant east side
*Tuesday, Jan. 28, daytime lining: 600 and 700 block of Merchant west side, 600 and 700 block of Constitution east side
*Wednesday, Jan. 29, nighttime lining: 1000 and 1100 block of Commercial west side, 1000 and 1100 block of Merchant east side
*Thursday, Jan. 30, daytime lining: 400 block of Commercial west side, 400 block of Merchant east side, Fourth between Commercial and Constitution
The Mechanic Street underpass is closed all week as well due to sewer relining. Parking lots and alleys close to work zones may have restricted access, and alley trash or recycling services may be relocated. Drivers and pedestrians are told to be cautious as they work around or through work zones.
Daytime lining activities take place during normal business hours, while night lining activities generally start after 7 pm.
