Lyon County Commissioners decided against approval of a request for annual bridge instruction work during their weekly action session Thursday morning.
Commissioners received the request from Professional Engineering Consultants, P.A. to conduct a portion of the county’s annual bridge inspections. Following conversations of the county’s past inspection work, conducted by Bennish Consultants, commissioners unanimously decided against approving the request.
County Engineer Chip Woods says this action is beneficial to the county as approving the request would mean they would have to reopen the selection process for the work. According to Woods, the process takes roughly 6-8 months and could significantly set back the inspection process.
Additionally, commissioners did approve a quote from Foley Equipment Company for a used 2016 Caterpillar Model 12M3 Motor Grader for $220,000. Commissioners also granted approval to the Emporia Recreation Commission for partial use of the county parking area at the 300 Block of Mechanic Street for bus traffic during the 5a state basketball tournament at White Auditorium in March.
Commissioners will reconvene for their weekly action session next Thursday at 9 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
