Four Emporia restaurants have been found out of compliance after recent inspections by the Kansas Department of Agriculture.
*The Holiday Inn Express and Suites, 3007 West 18th, was listed with 10 violations after a verification inspection Jan. 13. Among the violations were not keeping daily disinfection, general operation, disinfectant residual operation or pH level logs; flea powder container next to commercially-sealed tea bags; and emergency lighting not in working order in several areas.
*The Huddle House, 4215 West Highway 50, had eight violations after a routine inspection Tuesday. Among the reported violations were the lack of handwashing after touching food or contact surfaces; improper food storage temperatures; improper storage of raw meat
*Shangri-La Sushi and Teryiaki, 841 West Sixth, had a routine inspection Wednesday with three violations reported. Listed violations included improper storage of raw meat, including tuna and ground beef, and improper storage temperatures.
*Tortas El Torro, 602 East Sixth, had 11 violations after a routine inspection Wednesday. Listed violations include raw meat bags in direct contact with other raw meat or fresh produce bags; food store in non-food-grade plastic bags; food used with no date mark; raw meat allowed to thaw in a sink with a direct connection to the sewage system; and no paper towels or other hand-drying provisions at a restroom sink.
In most cases, offending items were rearranged or discarded and temperatures were adjusted. Education was also provided in the cases of log violations and supplies were provided when those were not immediately available.
