Temperatures have hit the freezing mark in Emporia, but slick conditions have led to several fender-bender crashes in the city limits.
In one case, a car slid off a city street near 10th and Mechanic and bumped a staircase leading to a house’s upstairs entry. In another, a car slid off a street near Ninth and Elm and hit a brick wall. No injuries have been reported with those or any other wrecks that developed Friday morning.
Emporia’s heavily-traveled streets are seasonal to slushy after treatments by Public Works crews during the overnight hours. County roads are icy in spots after similar treatments by the Lyon County Highway Department. KanDrive.org shows area highways are dry to seasonal.
Local law enforcement is encouraging drivers to slow down and factor in extra time to get where you need to go for the rest of the day and through Friday night as temperatures climb to just above freezing before dipping back into the low 20s overnight.
