Lyon County Administrative Judge Merlin Wheeler is among nearly 30 district court chief judges reappointed by the Kansas Supreme Court.
Wheeler has now served as a district judge for the Fifth District involving Lyon and Chase counties for 30 years, starting on the bench in 1990. He became the district’s chief judge in 1998.
Other reappointments involving the KVOE listening area were announced Friday:
*Judge Gary Nafziger returns as chief judge for the Second District involving Wabaunsee County. Nafziger has been the district’s chief judge since 2006 and has been a judge for the district since 1982.
*Judge Taylor Wine was reappointed as the Fourth District’s chief judge. Wine has been a district judge and chief judge for the district since 2018. Beforehand, he was a district magistrate judge in Osage County. The Fourth District covers Coffey and Osage counties.
*Judge Michael Powers was reappointed to the Eighth District involving Morris County. Powers has been a district judge since 1991 and chief judge since 1994.
*Judge Gary Ricke returns as the 13th District’s chief judge. Ricke has been a district judge since 2004 and chief judge since 2012. The 13th District involves Greenwood County.
