A pair of minor earthquakes in Marion County jostled parts of the KVOE listening area this week.
The stronger of the two actually developed around 5:20 pm Wednesday. The magnitude 3.1 quake hit around six miles northeast of Marion at a depth of almost 2.25 miles. Moderate shaking was reported near the epicenter, with light shaking reported in Emporia.
Earlier, there was a magnitude 2.9 quake that hit the same general area of Marion County around 9:10 pm Tuesday. There were a handful of weak shaking reports in Emporia and Council Grove along with over 20 reports of light to weak activity in and around Marion.
There have been no reports of injuries with either quake.

The one that was actually reported as felt through the US Geological Survey was a magnitude 2.9 quake that hit the same general area of Marion County around 9:10 pm Tuesday. There were a handful of weak shaking reports in Emporia and Council Grove along with over 20 reports of activity in and around Marion.
There have been no reports of damage or injuries with either quake.
