The Emporia High girls basketball team advanced to the Championship semi-finals in the Glaciers Edge Tournament with a 46-36 win over Hutchinson Thursday night.
The Lady Spartans jumped out to a 14-5 lead by the end of the first quarter and Coach Carolyn Dorseys team never trailed.
Mya Tovar was the leading scorer finishing with 11 points. Gracie Gilpin added 10 points. The Emporia High girls will play Wichita Heights in the 7:45 game tonight.
Heights, ranked 4th in 6A and undefeated, defeated Life Prep Academy in their first round game.
Emporia High Coach Carolyn Dorsey says Heights is very athletic.
In the other first round games:
Washburn Rural defeated Wichita South 55-25 and Great Bend slipped past Goddard Eisenhower 38-36 in overtime.
Fridays schedule begins at 3:15 with Wichita South playing Eisenhower. At 4:45 Hutchinson plays Life Prep.
at 6:15 Washburn Rural plays Great Bend.
With Emporia High playing Wichita Heights in the final game of the day.
All games will be played in the main gym at Emporia High School.
The Emporia High vs Wichita Heights game will be broadcast on KVOE 1400AM/96.9FM.
