Traffic on Kansas Highway 99 was blocked in both directions six miles north of Emporia after a traffic incident Friday morning.
A turbine blade was northbound on Highway 99 and rounding past the junction of Roads 240 and L when the crash happened before 9 am. The crash took place where the highway goes from north-south alignment to east-west alignment, and the driver apparently took that turn too tightly before sending the semi into a nearby ditch.
The equipment is headed to a wind energy facility near Lincoln, Nebraska. It’s unclear if it suffered any damage.
The incident blocked K-99 between Roads 240 and L for roughly two hours before traffic resumed normal flow around 11 am. The wreck had a much lower impact on traffic than a semi crash involving turbine equipment Jan. 9 that blocked the highway for several days.
