Burlington Northern Santa Fe’s rail crossing at Cottonwood Street is back open.
The crossing in eastern Emporia was closed on an emergency basis by the railroad, according to the City Engineering Office. Crews spent much of Friday repairing or replacing the ties between the actual tracks.
The railroad has not said why the crossing needed urgent repair.

The crossing at Cottonwood Street had to close for repairs to the ties between the actual tracks, according to the City of Emporia Engineering Office. The exact nature of the repairs and the reason behind them has not been announced.
It is unclear when the crossing may reopen to normal traffic flow.
