The Madison Bulldogs and Olpe Lady Eagles are your 2020 Lyon County League Tournament Champions.
Olpe dominated the Lebo Lady Wolves en route to their third consecutive championship win 61-27 in the girl’s championship game.
Lebo would own the lead, their only of the ball game, early in the first quarter before Olpe would outscore the wolves 20-10 in the first and 19-7 in the second to establish a 39-17 lead they would never relinquish at the half. Olpe would then hold the wolves to just 10 points in the second half on their way to back-to-back-to-back Lyon County League titles.
Olpe junior Marley Heins led all scorers with 17 points on the night. Junior May Bishop ended the night with 15.
Heins says their teamwork was at an all-time high.
Head Coach Jesse Nelson says his team’s defense helped secure the championship.
Lebo was led in scoring by sophomore Alli Moore with 10 points.
In the boy’s championship, Madison would manage to survive a fourth quarter surge by the Lebo Wolves in the fourth quarter to pick up a 37-36 win at the buzzer.
Madison took the lead early in the ballgame with a 7-0 run in the first 4:40 of the ballgame before a series of three-pointers would see Lebo trail by two at the end of one. At half Madison managed to maintain a one-point lead 23-22 before the teams would trade the lead throughout the second half.
The Wolves would manage to hold Madison scoreless and mount a 5-0 comeback to take the lead 36-34 late in the fourth before Madison junior Chase Harrison would hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give Madison its first points of the fourth quarter and first league championship in 12 years.
Harrison says that last shot was a dream come true.
Madison Head Coach Brett Dannels says his team never stopped fighting.
Harrison led all scorers with 20 points. Lebo junior Devan McEwen led the wolves with 17.
