Registration is now done for the 2020 Dirty Kanza assortment of races and organizers are promising this year’s event will be bigger and better than ever before.
Jim Cummins and Lelan Dains of Dirty Kanza Promotions joined KVOE’s Talk of Emporia Monday morning to preview the annual cavalcade of gravel rides. Dains says this year they are expecting around 4,000 riders to descend on Emporia in late May.
Cummins says the list of riders will represent all 50 states as well as 38 foreign countries.
Cummins says the DK XL 350 mile ride will also be expanding this year after having 84 riders compete in 2019 they currently have 154 signed up to take on the 36-hour monster ride. In order to help get riders prepared for the intense weekend, Dains says they will be rolling out their annual list of training camps for DK participants in the spring.
DK activities will begin on May 28 and run through May 31 with the annual 200 ride beginning on Saturday, May 30. The DK XL will launch from Mechanic Street on Friday, May, 29. Dains says while the annual lottery is now done, there are still a few opportunities available for riders to take part in the DK. This includes a partnership with three local charitable organizations that purchased places in the race and will allow riders to either fundraise or pay off their entry fee to compete with all funds going directly to that charity.
