They didn’t shake hands before the speech. She ripped up her copy of the speech after it was done.
President Trump’s third State of the Union was remarkable for its partisan atmosphere Tuesday night. The speech itself touted achievements under his leadership, especially economic ones.
Standing behind the President, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi tore up her copy of the speech, telling reporters afterward, “it was a dirty speech” and “it was a courteous thing to do considering the alternative.”
Kansas lawmakers largely supported Trump. Congressman Roger Marshall said the speech showed Trump as “laser-focused” on “ushering our nation into an unprecedented era of peace and prosperity.” Senator Pat Roberts, who is retiring after his term ends this year, said he was glad Trump “shares Kansans’ goal of economic prosperity and a strong and proud America.”
At no point did the President mention impeachment, which has been underway for several months but could end with his acquittal as soon as Wednesday.
