Cottonwood Falls residents are told not to worry about their water supply after announcing a short-term reporting lapse in late 2018.
Cottonwood Falls has to test for coliform bacteria at least twice monthly and then submit samples to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. The city did not collect at least one of the samples as required in December 2018.
City staffers say the issue has been resolved, although they haven’t said when and they haven’t said why it took until now to announce the violation. The city says there is no emergency and no direct health risk to water customers. The city is taking a closer look at its monthly sampling program and daily record-keeping. It is also researching alternate resources to test or ship samples to prevent future issues.
