Chase County and Madison traded victories in area high school basketball action Tuesday evening.
Despite losing a 9-0 lead in the first quarter the Chase County Lady Bulldogs would top the Madison Lady Bulldogs 50-30 in the girl’s game.
After trailing by nine early in the first quarter, Madison would manage to come as close as three to tying the ball game, before a 12-5 run in the second would see Chase County establish a lead they would never relinquish heading into the half. Madison would come as close as 10 in the second half but could never catch up as Chase County would secure their 15th win on the season.
Chase County was led in scoring by sophomore Kaylee Simpson with 17 points. Head Coach Ron Slaymaker says Madison’s defense did a good job of testing his girls throughout the game.
Madison was led in scoring by freshman Yolaine Luthi with 10 points. With the win Chase County improves to 15-3 on the season as Madison falls to 3-16 on the season.
In the boy’s game, Madison managed to hold off a third-quarter run to defeat Chase County 50-31.
Madison would use an early run in the first quarter would help give Madison a nine-point 21-12 lead at the half. In the second half, Madison would extend the lead to as many as 10 before Chase County would cut it down to five heading into the fourth.
In the fourth, Madison would re-establish their double-digit lead with an early 14-0 run and never look back snapping Chase County’s five-game winning streak.
Madison Head Coach Brett Dannels says despite the win, his team saw its share of struggles.
Madison was led in scoring by sophomore Drew Stutseman with 18 points, while Chase County junior Blaise Holloway led his team with 10. Madison now improves to 18-1 on the season as Chase County falls to 9-8.
