A 4th quarter rally came up short for the Emporia High boys basketball team Tuesday night in a 55-51 loss at Topeka High.
The Spartans trailed by 9 with over 2 minutes to play in the 4th quarter. They would rally to cut the deficit to 53-51 with 11 seconds to play. The Spartans had several opportunities to tie the game or take the lead but could not captialize. Coach Beau Welch said they just could not get over the hump.
Charles Snyder scored a game high 28 points for Emporia High and was the lone Spartan to score in double-figures. With the win Topeka High has possession of the Dean Smith Trophy.
Topeka High won the girls game 64-26. Topeka High remains undefeated and ranked number 1 in 6A. Emporia High Coach Carolyn Dorsey said there was a silver lining.
Emporia High will play their final home game Friday when they host Topeka Seaman.
