Light snowfall began developing by late Wednesday night and has continued since. So far, most areas have received a dusting to half an inch of snow.
There haven’t been a lot of overnight wrecks, but local authorities were dispatched to a reported injury crash on the Kansas Turnpike near the Emporia gate shortly after 4 am. The Turnpike Authority hasn’t detailed what happened yet, but it says five people in one vehicle were all taken to Newman Regional Health afterward. The wreck closed the southbound onramp from the tollgate to the highway itself for about 45 minutes.
TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers says drivers need to avoid being complacent Thursday morning.
City crews are treating the major arterials, as well as the more-traveled residential streets and areas around schools, Newman Regional Health and Flint Hills Community Health Center. County crews are treating the paved county roads at this time.
