More federal money is coming to the Emporia Municipal Airport.
US Senator Jerry Moran and Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao have announced almost $190,000 will go to the airport three miles south of Emporia to help purchase land.
The money follows action by the Emporia City Commission two weeks ago to annex almost 35 acres of land to accommodate a runway extension to meet guidelines from the Federal Aviation Administration.
It’s also the third grant disbursement for the airport over the last year. In November, the airport received $500,000 to buy land. It received another $360,000 for the same purpose last July.
