After raising the tentative total needed to pay off past debts to the Internal Revenue Service, the attention of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1980 now shifts to addressing major facility needs.
According to Post Commander Michael White, the post has raised the needed funds in order to clear their $20,000 debt in back taxes to the IRS and are currently awaiting word on if the final amount will change. White says as they await word the post has set forth a new fundraising goal as they look to conduct a wide range of facility updates.
In an earlier interview, White said the original goal was set at $50,000, however, with not knowing what the full scope of work may entail they decided to increase the fundraising goal to $75,000.
White also took time to share his gratitude to the local community for its generosity over the past six months. Several large anonymous donations played a major role in helping the post tentatively clear its debts and White says that generosity has a more significant impact than donors realize.
White calls the post a “safe haven” for local veterans.
