Kansas Gas has announced a plan to upgrade natural gas pipelines in Emporia.
The utility says early work has started in southeast Emporia. Work will take place between 7:30 am and 5 pm weekdays, and some work projects may require a short shutoff of gas service to customers.
In all cases, affected customers will be notified ahead of schedule by NPL, the contractor for Kansas Gas. Once the work is done, a technician will need to enter the customer’s home or business to finalize service restoration — meaning an adult age 18 or older will have to be present.
This follows a project last year to upgrade residential gas meters across Emporia. Spokesperson Kara Titus says this project will provide continued safe, reliable natural gas service for Emporia customers.
Kansas Gas also reminds residents to call 811 for a utility location pre-inspection before doing any digging projects and to call both 911 and the Kansas Gas Emergency Line at 888-482-4950 if they smell natural gas.
