Hope was thriving throughout Emporia State University’s Memorial Union’s Webb Hall Saturday evening for the eighth annual SOS Hope-a-Palooza.
This year’s Hope-a-Palooza went back in time with the ever-popular roaring 20’s theme which was heavily embraced by all in attendance. The annual event helps to generate funds in support of SOS’s additional efforts not supported by grant funding.
SOS Director Connie Cahoone says this allows SOS to go the extra mile in supporting those they serve.
While the event is first and foremost a fundraiser, it is also a yearly celebration for SOS, their clients, and their staff according to Community Relations Coordinator Kari Wedel.
As is tradition SOS honored two individuals as the honorary chairs of the event, Mark and Angie Schreiber. The Schreibers have been heavily involved in supporting SOS’s mission for several years.
Mark Schreiber recalls becoming involved with SOS back in the 1980s.
After enjoying a delicious meal and honoring this year’s SOS award winners, attention shifted to the annual silent and live auctions with a wide range of items from sports memorabilia to delicious desserts and a special painting created live at the event from local artist Emeline Fuller.
Around $42,000 was raised. This year’s SOS Award recipients are as follows:
Agency Partner of the Year: Jaffar Agha
Donor of the Year: ESB Financial
Volunteer of the Year: Sarah Meenen
