Several area law enforcement agencies are taking part in a special traffic enforcement effort around high schools over the next two weeks.
Sheriff’s offices in Lyon and Coffey counties have announced their participation, along with other agencies in Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma, starting Monday and continuing through March 6. Deputies will issue tickets to anybody not obeying traffic laws, whether it be for speeding, texting while driving, failing to buckle up or other violations.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teenagers between the ages of 15 to 18.
