In a sign of the times, Emporia now has a charging station involving the most prominent name in electric vehicles.
Workers on Saturday installed a Tesla Supercharger outside the Emporia West Plaza, 1312 Industrial. These charging stations allow for vehicle charging in 30 minutes or less.
Details about the arrangement between Tesla and Emporia West Plaza or other partners are pending. Workers on site said there was a non-disclosure agreement involved. Tesla’s website has a page for interested commercial partners to submit information.
Emporia now joins larger cities in Kansas with supercharging stations like Topeka, Salina and Wichita, along with other cities of similar or smaller size including Colby, Goodland, Hays with the charging facilities. The Kansas City metro area has four supercharging stations and nearly 10 destination stations, where electric vehicles charge for several hours or overnight.
Tesla lists nearly 1,900 supercharger locations well over 5,000 destination charging partners across the United States.
