Chase County Rural Water District No. 1 is now in a boil water advisory until further notice.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment says there was a loss of water pressure due to a water leak. City Clerk Shari DeWitt with Strong City says there was a big water main leak that developed on 260th Road east of Strong City. The leak is currently being repaired, but the advisory will remain in place until the rural water district can collect water samples, submit those to KDHE for testing and then have the test results in compliance with KDHE guidelines.
Affected residents are told to boil water for 60 seconds before preparing food or drinking the water. Other tips:
*Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from a household ice maker
*Disinfect dishes by immersing them in for at least one minute in a solution containing one teaspoon of unscented bleach per gallon of water. Food contact surfaces like countertops or stovetops can be disinfected using the same method
*Bathing water does not have to be boiled, but children need to be supervised so they do not accidentally drink the water
Rural Water District 1 serves most of northeast Chase County north of the Cottonwood River and east of both Cottonwood Falls and Strong City.
