Moderate to heavy rainfall caused several issues to our south and west from Sunday night into Monday.
In Chase County, water collapsed part of a stream bed near Roads 240 and X. That, in turn, washed out a 4-inch water main and eventually triggered a boil water advisory for Chase County Rural Water District No. 1 that’s in effect until further notice. Strong City Public Works Director Matt Markley tells KVOE News everything was repaired by mid-afternoon, but it could be near the end of the week before the advisory is lifted. The system needs to be flushed and the district needs to collect water samples for testing by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
Affected residents are told to boil water for 60 seconds before preparing food or drinking the water. Other tips are online at KVOE.com.
In Greenwood County, there are numerous low-water crossings and other low areas that are impassable, according to Emergency Management Director Levi Vinson. He says the impact on the county’s gravel road network and the bridge and culvert lineup will become more clear after sunrise.
Both counties were under a flood watch for several hours Sunday into Monday, and up to 2.5 inches of rain fell in both counties before the watch was canceled. Greenwood County had a flood warning extended so it now expires at 2:30 pm Tuesday.
