The St. Patrick’s Committee had a banner night last night.
The annual auction at Bruffs Sports Bar and Grill generated an event-record $21,600, not including sales of beads, shirts and raffle tickets. Committee chair Trey Sommers was blown away by the night.
Sommers says people were lining up tables before 4 pm, better than three hours before the live auction started. He says the committee’s work has resonated across the area, with at least one big reason why:
Money raised benefits 15 different groups and the committee’s endowed scholarship at Flint Hills Technical College. The next big day for the committee is March 14, including the annual parade and several fundraisers like the Leprechaun Dash 5K, the brand-new Luck of the Irish Ace Chase disc golf tournament and Downtown Emporia Bar Association pub crawl. Tickets for chances to win $200 in cash, half a side of beef or a 65-inch TV will be available through March 14.
