Emporia Main Street is hoping to win its third national Main Street contest over the past 15 years, but it needs your votes to do so.
Emporia Main Street is among the quarterfinalists in the America’s Main Streets competition organized by Independent We Stand, which works to raise awareness of the benefits of supporting local businesses, and sponsored by Stihl. It provides the winner with $25,000 after an online public vote, which Emporia Main Street Director Casey Woods says will go to local entrepreneurs if Emporia wins.
Emporia won the USA Today’s Best Main Street in 2016 and the Great American Main Street award in 2006. Woods says those led to both increased investor activity and more investments as a whole.
Nearly 80 organizations are currently in the field. Quarterfinalist voting is underway now through April 19, with semifinalist voting April 27-May 24 and the winner being announced June 2. Residents can vote — more than once — by going online to www.emporiamainstreet.com or clicking here.
Meanwhile, Woods is pleased with a new interactive mural on the Main Street office exterior at 727 Commercial, courtesy of Coffelt Signs.
Main Street has several upcoming events, including the grand opening of its first incubated business Trox Gallery and Gifts starting at 11 am Friday, a visit by the Brookings Institute on March 16-18, Quarter Mania on March 19, and the Taste on April 4.
