Goddard used a 12-2 run to close out the game to seal a 48-39 win over the Emporia High girls basketball team in the sub-state semi-finals Wednesday.
There were 4 lead changes in the 4th quarter. Emporia High grabbed a 35-33 lead with over 6 minutes to play. The Lady Spartans retook the lead 37-36 with over 4 minutes to play. Goddard would close the game on a 12-2 for the win. Goddard jumped out to a 17-8 lead after the 1st quarter. Emporia High trailed 23-19 at halftime. The Lady Spartans out scored Goddard 11-8 in the 3rd quarter to cut the deficit to 31-30 going to the 4th quarter. Emporia High Coach Carolyn Dorsey was proud of her teams effort.
Macey Adams led Emporia High with 11 points going 3 for 3 from the three point line. Rayanna Breshears added 9 points. The Emporia High girls end their season with a 9 and 12 record.
