The Lebo Wolves dominated Colony Crest to advance to the 1A Emporia Substate Championship game with an 81-33 victory Thursday. In El Dorado, the Madison Bulldogs saw their season to come to an end with a 51-47 loss to St. Paul.
Lebo would trail 6-2 early in the first quarter before a 6-1 run gave them a lead they would never relinquish. The Wolves followed up the first with a 36-8 run in the second and a 23-13 run in the third to put the game completely out of reach.
Lebo had four players end the night in double figures and were led in scoring by senior Devan McEwen and freshman Landon Grimmet with 19 points each. Junior Andrew Bailey and senior Caden Ott both ended the night with 11.
Lebo Head Coach Dwayne Paul says his team managed to shake off some early nerves in the first and controlled the pace throughout.
Lebo now advances to the sub-state championship game Saturday night where they will face Central Christian.
In El Dorado, Madison would manage to establish a double-digit lead in the third before a 10-0 run would see St. Paul tie the game at the end of the quarter. Despite a back and forth fourth quarter, Madison would struggle foul line giving St. Paul the momentum to close out the win.
Madison Head Coach Brett Dannels says St. Paul’s size advantage made a difference late in the game.
Junior Chase Harrison led his team in scoring with 17 points. Madison finishes the season with a 20-4 record.
