The first full year of Empria’s bike share program is upon us.
The program rolled out in September and was available for about a month last year before it was put on hold for the winter. In that time, there were over 310 bike rentals with over 100 people using the program.
Over 20 single-speed bikes are now available at six locations across Emporia: CrossWinds Counseling and Wellness, Do-B’s, Emporia High, Lee Beran Recreation Center, Logan Avenue Elementary School and the public parking lot south of White Auditorium. Residents need to down the Movatic app to their smartphone and enter credit or debit card information before selecting both the desired station and bike number.
The program is a three-way partnership between Healthier Lyon County, the Emporia Police Department and Lyon County Sheriff’s Office. Healthier Lyon County grant manager Daphne Mertens will join KVOE’s Newsmaker segment at 7:15 am Monday with more details.
