Central Missouri used a 9-2 run to close out the MIAA Tournament Championship game for a 82-75 win over the Emporia State womens basketball team Sunday.
Emporia State jumped out to a 6-2 lead before Central Missouri would take control and build a 24-16 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Jennies would extend the lead to 12 points early in the 2nd quarter before Emporia State would cut the deficit to 5 by halftime. In the 3rd quarter the Lady Hornets erupted to retake the lead by the end of the 3rd quarter 62-55. Mollie Mounsey led the charge scoring 14 of her game high 37 points during the 3rd quarter. Tre’Zure Jobe scored the first 6 points of the 3rd quarter to get the Lady Hornets started. In the 4th quarter Emporia State held onto the lead until the 2:40 mark when Central tied the game at 73. Central Closed out the game on a 9-2 run. Emporia State Coach Toby Wynn said they did a lot of things well.
Mollie Mounsey scored a game high 37 points. She finished the tournament with 87 points, a new tournament record. Breaking the record held by former Lady Hornet Emily Bloss. Bloss scored 76 points in 2001. Coach Toby Wynn called it an impressive effort.
Mollie was 7 for 13 from the 3 point line.
Morgan Lauden was the only other Lady Hornet to score in double-figures finishing with 10 points.
Mollie Mounsey also shared tournament Most Outstanding player honors with Central Missouris’ Morgan Fleming. Tre’Zure Jobe was also named to the All-Tournament team.
The Lady Hornets have received an at large bid to the NCAA Central Regional Tournament. Coach Toby Wynn calls it another great accomplishment.
The Lady Hornets are the number 4 seed and will play Southeastern Oklahoma State in the 7:30 game Friday in Warrensburg, Missouri.

Central Missouri is the number 1 seed and host. They will play Southwestern Oklahoma State.
Minnesota Duluth is the number 2 seed and will play Fort Hays State.
Sioux Falls is the 3rd seed and will play St. Cloud State.
The Central Regional tournament begins Friday March 13th with the championship game scheduled for Monday, March 16th.
The winner of the Central Regional tournament advances to the Elite 8 to be played in Birmingham, Alabama March 24-27.
