Healthcare and education funding are two of the major focuses for US Congress hopeful Christy Cauble-Davis.
Cauble-Davis, the former director of Symphony in the Flinthills, was the featured speaker at the Lyon County Democrats monthly meeting Monday evening. Cauble-Davis is looking to replace Kansas Congressman Roger Marshall in the upcoming election cycle.
Before her conversation with local democrats Monday, Cauble -Davis spoke with KVOE to outline what she believes are the major issues currently facing the state.
She says during her many interactions with local constituents conversations regarding concerns have consistently focused on affordable healthcare in Kansas amongst other topics. Cauble-Davis says healthcare is a major topic across the US, but specifically in Kansas as conversations continue regarding Medicaid expansion, which she calls a “state issue.” At the federal level, Cauble-Davis says her major focus will be “protecting the protections” provided by the affordable care act.
Cauble-Davis says another major issue for her is education funding for “certain student populations.” She says in many areas funding has not kept up with federal regulations which is having a profound impact on all schools, but specifically those in smaller rural communities that could “threaten their existence.”
Cauble-Davis is not the only Democrat seeking election to the Kansas Congressional First District seat. Fellow Democrats Kali Barnett and Brandon Williams are also in the race, however, Cauble-Davis feels her experience on both a political and local level helps give her a leg up on her fellow candidates.
Along with the Democratic candidates seeking to replace Marshall, three Republicans have also announced their candidacy including Bill Clifford, Tracey Mann and Troy Waymaster.
