If you have been looking for cleaning supplies or sanitizing items at local grocers, some of those have been in short supply.
Residents have been snapping up hand sanitizer and other items as concerns about coronavirus continue to build. At Good’s Cash Saver, manager Gary Andrews says supplies of items like bleach or cleaning wipes are holding on. Sanitizer is another story.
At Country Mart, there are limited supplies of bleach and wipes and limited restocking for the time being. Toilet paper and paper towels have disappeared at other places in Kansas, but not at Country Mart or Good’s Cash Saver.
Andrews and Country Mart manager Nancy Garcia are both promoting good handwashing — at least 20 seconds each time — as a way to blunt the spread of any illnesses, coronavirus included.
Elsewhere, the first presumptive-positive coronavirus patient in Kansas has now been taken to KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, for additional treatment. Health officials say the patient, a woman under age 50, may well have contracted the virus while traveling on the East Coast.
The woman has been taken to a special negative-air flow room to both treat patients and to shield staff and visitors from diseases. Doctors say she is “doing well.”
