The Emporia Rescue Mission needs your help to reach its fundraising goal of $60,000 for the annual Feinstein Challenge.
The Alan Shawn Feinstein Foundation of Cranston, Rhode Island matches local donations dollar-for-dollar up to $60,000 as well as non-perishable food donations at a rate of $1 an item.
Rescue Mission director Lee Alderman spoke with KVOE about how changes in the Food Stamp program have caused an increase in need locally.
Alderman stated that reaching the goal will allow them to continue their operations for the next 8 months. On average the Rescue mission serves 30 people a day, allowing them to have a balanced meal.
For anyone in need of the Rescue Mission’s services, meals are served weekly Monday-Thursday at 5:30 PM at 1028 Whittier St in Emporia.
Anyone looking to donate funds can send donations to PO Box 901 in Emporia. Anyone looking to volunteer can call the Rescue Mission at 620-342-5531. For more information about the Emporia Rescue Mission please visit their website at www.emporiamission.org.
