We’re not seeing it here in Emporia — yet — but gas prices could be taking a tumble soon.
They already are in other area communities as a direct result of a full-blown price war, and Kansas AAA spokesman Shawn Steward says even lower prices may be coming.
Locally, gas prices are anywhere from $2.11 to $2.16 a gallon. Areawide, there are several towns featuring gas under $2 a gallon, including Eureka, Lyndon and Osage City, according to www.gasbuddy.com.
The price war developed rapidly after Saudi Arabia couldn’t reach agreements with OPEC and Russia on production cuts, instead deciding to boost production. Steward said that decision was a surprise, especially as demand for oil has been declining worldwide due to the coronavirus.
