Local grocery stores are adjusting their operating hours to help them meet the crush of demand from the coronavirus.
Good’s Cash Saver and Country Mart have announced the stores will close at 6 pm Sunday to let staff examine resources and allocate staff to meet the demand going forward. Beginning Monday, the stores will be open from 7 am to 7 pm until further notice to give employees a better chance to both stock and sanitize the stores.
The move follows Walmart’s decision Saturday night to temporarily end its overnight hours and be open from 6 am to 11 pm — again, for restocking and sanitizing.
Dillons says it is currently keeping its normal operating hours of 7 am to 11 pm, based on guidance from its parent company, Kroger.
Residents have been snapping up a range of items ranging from cleaning supplies to paper products to shelf-stable foods since the World Health Organization declared a pandemic, or worldwide spread, of the virus. As a result, certain supplies have been stripped bare the past few days and stores are receiving limited replacement shipments in return.
