After the recommendation Sunday for school districts across Kansas to postpone classes for the time being, Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has now banned gatherings exceeding 50 people.
Governor Kelly made the announcement Monday as the next step in precautionary measures to combat the coronavirus pandemic. The announcement follows a recommendation from President Donald Trump’s administration that citizens should avoid gatherings of 10 or more people.
The order, banning gatherings of 50 or more for the next eight weeks, follows the announcement that three more Kansas residents have tested positive for coronavirus.
The three additional cases now brings the total in Kansas to 11. One death has also been confirmed in the state so far after a Wyandotte County man in his 70’s passed away from the disease last week. While the order does ban large gatherings, Governor Kelly has yet to order bars, restaurants, gyms or other businesses to close down.
