Local and area Internet companies are making adjustments to make life easier for customers during the coronavirus pandemic.
With all the attention paid recently to employees possibly having to work from home, residents have been calling providers in bigger numbers over the past week. ValuNet FIBER Residential Marketing Manager Kala Maxfield says the push has been ongoing for a week.
On Wednesday, ValuNet set aside a large free WiFi zone on Commercial Street from Sixth north to 10th as well as the parking lots both east and west of Commercial between Seventh and Eighth. This zone will be for educational use or residents with no Internet availability.
The move followed a similar move by Sparklight, which opened up a free WiFi zone in the office parking lot at 714 Commercial. Elsewhere, MT Networks has opened up numerous WiFi locations in Burlington, Gridley, Lebo, LeRoy, Madison, New Strawn and Waverly, and Mediacom has increased the speed of some of its services or expanded access for residents in Eureka.
