In light of COVID-19, lawmakers have extended Governor Laura Kelly’s emergency powers but have voted to keep the right to review and possibly revoke some of her decisions.
Both the House and Senate unanimously endorsed Kelly exercising expanded authority, at least until May 1, but that vote also included greater legislative oversight into coronavirus response. Under this arrangement, Kelly cannot take ammunition from residents.
A prior version would have kept Kelly from seizing ammunition and private property and also stopped her from controlling public movement inside state lines.
