Two more executive orders from Governor Laura Kelly have been issued as the state adjusts its operations due to coronavirus.
On Sunday, the governor signed an executive order to let doctors prescribe medications after “appropriate telemedicine consultations.” The order also lets llicensed out-of-state doctors offer temedicine services and it lets the Kansas Board of Health Arts regulate temporary emergency licenses for healthcare professionals.
The governor also signed a separate executive order relaxing certain motor carrier rules and regulations. Motor carriers and people operating commercial vehicles can haul up to 10 eprcent more than their licensed weight or up to 90,000 pounds — provided they are “actively participating” in COVID-19 relief and restoration efforts. Licensing, certification and permitting rules and regulations are temporarily suspended for these drivers, as are registration and fuel tax permits.
Governor Kelly has already issued several executive orders over the past week, closing school buildings and directing school districts to end in-class education for the rest of the semester, halting the beginning of mortgage foreclosures, prohibiting utility and internet disconnections, limiting mass gatherings to less than 50 people and extending states of local disaster emergency.
The governor is planning a news conference on childcare matters Monday, but the time for that has not been announced.
