Emporia Christian School is clarifying what is under a self-imposed quarantine and what is not as many other districts across the area return to school Monday.
Principal Trisha Fullerton initially said the school was quarantined, later saying the quarantine was limited to the childcare portion of the school and other operations were unaffected. The quarantine is effective until April 8 and started after several staffers and family members had potential exposure to coronavirus.
Fullerton is not commenting further on that aspect of the quarantine. She says it made sense to keep the childcare facility closed, both for the safety of all involved and also to recognize lower attendance numbers with school buildings closed and the statewide stay-home order now active until April 19.
Christian School administrators are working with Lyon County Public Health and will reopen as soon as possible. In the meantime, staff and volunteers considered as “non-contact exposure” are stepping up their cleaning efforts for the next two weeks. Packet pickup will continue but staffers will bring the supplies to students instead of having the students go inside the school.
