School resumes Monday across Lyon County and several neighboring counties under much different circumstances than when the school year started.
Emporia Superintendent Kevin Case offered encouragement to students, parents, staff and the community in an online message Sunday:
Students in Emporia, USD 251 North Lyon County and USD 252 Southern Lyon County will use a combination of online and packet learning through the rest of the school year with school buildings shut down due to coronavirus concerns. For the packets, both USD 251 and USD 252 are using a grab-and-go method much like their meal service through the end of the school year — and USD 251 will use the meal service pickup locations at North Lyon County Elementary, Allen Senior, Admire Community Building and Reading Performance Sports for that purpose.
USD 386 Madison-Virgil will have much of its education online with classes underway Monday, but with only around 10 percent of district families having Internet access at home, USD 386 has been working with MT Networks to increase access. Other “enrichment activities” are in place for students with no Internet access.
Other districts resuming classes Monday include USD 244 Burlington, USD 417 Morris County, USD 420 Osage City and USD 456 Marais des Cygnes Valley. USD 284 Chase County begins Wednesday.
