A lot of the news about coronavirus has not been good, but there are some positive news items developing.
Kansas Health Secretary Dr. Lee Norman says the state is about to get more tests. Currently, KDHE has two weeks’ worth of tests but that is about to change.
The new testing method could mean as many as 65,000 test kits starting later this week.
Norman also says more personal protective equipment is coming for health care staffers.
Norman’s comments came shortly after President Donald Trump approved the state’s request for a major disaster declaration. This frees up federal help for the state, eligible local governments and certain private non-profits. That list may expand later.
Norman expects the state’s peak caseload to hit the state by April 24. While he expects numbers to dip after that, he also expects a return of coronavirus by this fall.
