The first confirmed COVID-19 related death has occurred in the KVOE listening area.
The Coffey County Health Department announced a 90-year-old female county resident passed away Tuesday after testing positive for COVID-19 Monday. The case, and all positive cases in Coffey County as well as three in Lyon County, are linked to Life Care Center in Burlington.
Contact investigations are ongoing and any identified close contacts will be isolated or quarantined at home and monitored for symptoms by Coffey County Health Department staff. This is the second known death to have occurred in the state at a Life Care Center following the first COVID-19 related death in Kansas at a Wyandotte County facility last month.
Life Care Center has not confirmed reports at this time that the caseload has risen to over 20.
At least 10 people have died state-wide as of now due to coronavirus.
