Federal lawmakers appeared on KVOE’s airwaves Wednesday to talk about the $2.2 trillion stimulus package designed to keep the country moving through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Congressman Roger Marshall appeared on KVOE’s Talk of Emporia, saying he was pleased with the speed of action to create the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act, or CARES Act. He says Democrats were distracted by impeachment at the start of the year, and false data from China slowed the national response.
During KVOE’s Newsmaker 2 segment, Senator Jerry Moran mentioned ongoing concerns about preparedness — or the lack thereof — before an impressive response recently.
Besides sending one-time payments to individuals and couples, with more money for dependent children as well, the CARES Act provides money for airports, block grants, banks, business loans, unemployment insurance and education. Marshall says Newman Regional Health will get personal protective equipment, additional tests and increased Medicare reimbursements. Emporia State will get more money for its online education.
