There will be no burning allowed in Wabaunsee County through Thursday evening.
Blustery conditions have led to the county issuing a burn ban effective now through 8 pm Thursday. The current forecast is calling for wind gusts as high as 30-35 mph throughout the day.
The announcement of the ban follows a fire which developed Wednesday afternoon just north of the Emporia Municipal Airport. The fire scorched roughly 30 acres before it was extinguished.
