If you have questions about how the federal stimulus and unemployment relief packages can help you, the Kansas Department of Labor is having an online town hall Wednesday afternoon to answer those questions.
Labor Secretary Delia Garcia and Unemployment Insurance Deputy Director Shawn Yancy will be on Facebook Live to answer questions about the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act, commonly called the CARES Act, and also the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program established as part of the CARES Act. The Labor Department says it received federal guidance on both programs over the weekend and neither is operational yet.
The overall CARES Act provides $2.2 trillion to individuals, couples, businesses, agriculture and education. The PUA extends unemployment insurance eligibility to self-employed workers, freelancers, independent contractors and part-time workers impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. It can provide up to 39 weeks of benefits for those that qualify.
The Facebook Live town hall starts at 3 pm on the Department of Labor’s Facebook page. Click here for PUA information from the US Department of Labor.
