Area residents went above and beyond to meet the urgent need for blood.
The most recent two-day drive culminated Tuesday and generated 148 pints, above goal of 140. Spokesperson Susan Faler was grateful for the turnout, especially given the coronavirus pandemic. She says the Red Cross is doing what it can to keep blood donors safe through social distancing — in part by spacing out tables and chairs, in part asking donors to wait in their car if things get too crowded. She also says there are a few extra steps before donors give blood.
Donors are also encouraged to download the Rapid Pass mobile app to fill out the pre-reading and health history questions before going to any donation site.
The next area drive is April 23 at the Chase County Community Building in Cottonwood Falls. In Emporia, the next drive is May 6 at Flinthills Mall in honor of Emporia Middle School teacher Morgan Taylor, who’s battling brain cancer.
