The Small Business Development Center at Emporia State University has seen a hefty call load the last month. Understandably so, with small businesses trying to move forward through the coronavirus pandemic.
On the ESU Buzz, Small Business Development Center Director Lisa Brumbaugh says all small businesses in the center’s 11-county coverage area have been impacted.
Business owners are seeking information about the different state or federal relief packages compiled over the last four weeks. So is Brumbaugh as she and her staff do their best to synthesize all the rules and regulations.
Brumbaugh says there are three main forms of aid that have developed for small businesses: debt relief for existing Small Business Administration borrowers, the Paycheck Protection Program and the SBA’s Economic Injury Disaster loans — which is where the Small Business Development Center is helping businesses the most. If business owners are seeking help through the Economic Injury loan program, Brumbaugh says they need to know their sales and costs of goods sold from Feb. 1, 2019 to Jan. 31, 2020 before applying.
