We’re in the middle of Safe Digging Month, and Kansas Gas Communications Director Dawn Tripp says the utility is trying a new approach to getting the safety message out.
In addition, the microsite includes information about the different flag colors used to indicate different utilities when people call 811.
Tripp says it’s vitally important to call the 811 number at least two business days before starting a project. You should also receive an email confirmation when all the underground utilities in the work zone are marked.
With the COVID-19 pandemic ongoing, Tripp urged people or businesses with large-scale projects to put those on hold for now. She says technicians can’t go into homes to restore service if somebody in the house has tested positive for coronavirus or is under quarantine, although they can respond to gas leaks and line ruptures.
If you smell a rotten egg odor, hear hissing, see bubbling water or have a natural gas situation develop, leave the area immediately before calling 911 and Kansas Gas at 888-482-4950.
